A mom told me that she had told her son that they could not have a dog. I don’t remember if she stated why this was true, but I could imagine. So what did her son do? You may say he cried, he whined and begged. No, he decided to start a dog walking business.  Mom was floored when he made the announcement, of course, he needed her cooperation but what do you do when you say NO and your child responses with resourcefulness. So, they don’t own a dog but the young boy gets to play with a variety of dogs and oh, yes he get paid for it. I love it. That is why launching

I attended a wonderful Breakfast Event today. It was a fundraiser for a worthwhile organization. The ticket price  was not an issue because a friend could not attend and she gave me her ticket. I am sending her a thank-you note NOW!

So,what to do with a free ticket, Go. What did I do when I arrived? I smiled, listened and then I talked.

I got to see and renew some relationships. People I have not seen in years. I had one person that I needed to meet and I met him. I had met him years ago and would see him every now and again at events. I knew he remembered me when he interrupted his breakfast to stand and give me a hug.  He took my card and wrote on the back to follow up. He did not have a card because he has just gotten a new position that will allow me to collaborate with him. Mission accomplished.

Total I only got three business cards, two of which I will not use. Doesn’t that sound rude, but let me tell you why. The person just handed me two of his business cards and walked away to talk to  someone else that I assume was more important than me. But one card I received from a woman that found a way to connect what she was doing to how it might benefit me. Wow! She has mastered one of the greatest facets of networking and that is to find a way to ‘give’ to the other person. So,  now I am left with only ONE business card that I will use. And guess what;  I will be looking for ways to ‘give’ to her. This is the start of building a mutually beneficial relationship for my business and hers.
